This is a typical itinerary for this hiking and Jeep tour. The order and duration of stops may vary based on weather, season, and group pace.
Your tour begins at the Sightseeing Tour Loading Zone in front of the Welwood Murray Memorial Library on the corner of South Palm Canyon Drive and East Tahquitz Canyon Way in downtown Palm Springs. Complimentary street parking is available nearby. After check-in, you board a classic open-air Jeep Scrambler and head south through Palm Springs toward the Indian Canyons.
The Jeep delivers you to Andreas Canyon Trailhead, where the main hiking portion of your tour begins. This easy 1-mile loop follows the banks of Andreas Creek through the world's second-largest California fan palm oasis. Hundreds of towering Washingtonia filifera palms rise from the canyon floor, their shaggy skirts rustling overhead while the creek flows steadily alongside the trail. Your guide pauses at ancient bedrock mortars near the trailhead entrance, stone depressions where the Cahuilla people ground seeds, nuts, and mesquite pods for centuries. As you walk deeper into Andreas Canyon Trailhead, the trail crosses the creek in several places, requiring light bouldering over smooth rocks and small boulders. More than 150 plant species thrive within a half-mile radius of the trail, including sycamores, cottonwoods, willows, and a variety of cacti, and your guide identifies them along the way, explaining how the Cahuilla used each plant for food, medicine, or daily life. The contrast between the lush green oasis and the stark desert hillsides above is striking, and there are photo opportunities at nearly every turn.
After completing the Andreas Canyon Trailhead loop, you reboard the Jeep for the short drive to the rim of Palm Canyon. From the overlook, you look down into one of the largest natural palm oases in North America, where more than 2,500 California fan palms fill the gorge below. Your guide points out the scale of the oasis and shares additional context about Cahuilla history and how the tribe managed this land for thousands of years.
A short walk from the Palm Canyon overlook takes you to a hidden water cave, a spot where an underground spring surfaces year-round. The cool, shaded cave feels like a different world from the open desert above, and your guide explains the geological forces that push water to the surface in this part of the canyon.
After the final stop, you reboard the Jeep for the scenic drive back through Palm Springs to the original meeting point at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library.

Andreas Canyon Trailhead sits just 15 minutes south of downtown Palm Springs, tucked within the Indian Canyons on the ancestral lands of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. Despite its proximity to the city, the trail feels completely removed from the resort world, a lush oasis of towering palms, flowing water, and ancient stone where the Cahuilla people lived for thousands of years.
On this guided Jeep and hiking tour, you will walk the full Andreas Canyon Trailhead loop alongside a naturalist who brings the landscape to life. The trail follows Andreas Creek through dense groves of California fan palms, the only palm species native to California. At the trailhead entrance, bedrock mortars carved into stone slabs mark the places where Cahuilla families prepared food for generations. As you move deeper along Andreas Canyon Trailhead, the creek crossings and light bouldering add a sense of gentle adventure, while the shade of the palms overhead keeps the walk cool even on warm desert mornings. Your guide weaves in stories of Cahuilla ceremonies, plant uses, and desert ecology, connecting what you see to the people who shaped this place.
