Cruise from Broad Creek to search for Atlantic bottlenose dolphins on a small, shared boat. Enjoy close views with a guaranteed encounter on a 1.75 to 2 hour tour.
Shared tours require a minimum of 3 passengers and carry a maximum of 6; all ages count as a passenger. Waters can be rough at times; if pregnant, elderly, or with back issues, consult your doctor. Weather calls are made at departure and trips may be rescheduled or refunded if conditions prevent departure.
There is a possibility of encountering unexpected rougher waters during the tour, even though the activity is generally considered safe. For this reason, if you or anyone in your group is elderly, fragile, pregnant, or has any pre-existing back injuries, medical conditions, or other conditions that could pose additional risk, we recommend consulting your doctor before participating in the boat ride. Additionally, please note that it is customary in the guiding and touring industry to tip your guides 15–20% for their service.
Cancel at least 48 hours before departure to rebook or receive a refund. Messages without confirmation do not constitute cancellation. Within 48 hours they will try to accommodate, but refunds are not guaranteed. If fewer people arrive than booked, the difference is nonrefundable.
Broad Creek Marina
This smaller boat tour operation has clearly figured out the winning formula for dolphin watching in Hilton Head. The intimate experience is a total game-changer compared to the big cattle-boat tours, with groups capped at just six people per vessel. You're sitting barely above the water line, close enough to nearly touch the dolphins (though that's off limits, of course), and the smaller boats can zoom around to wherever the action is happening. Tours typically run close to two hours, and the captains stay in radio contact with each other to share sightings, so you're not just hoping to stumble upon wildlife. Captain Craig gets mentioned constantly, and "Jersey Joe" and Jay also earn glowing praise. What stands out is how they tailor the experience to your group, whether that means keeping a toddler entertained the whole time, taking detours for shell hunting, or even doing shark fishing excursions. People love how knowledgeable these guides are about the local ecosystem, geography, and marine life, but they keep it fun rather than feeling like a lecture. Families with young kids seem particularly thrilled with how patient and engaging the captains are. The consistent theme is that this becomes people's favorite activity on the island, sometimes even after decades of coming to Hilton Head and trying the alternatives. Just be ready for the weather and open water conditions since you're riding low and fast.
My family of 4 love this dolphin tour! We stopped to get donuts beforehand for “dolphins + donuts” — it was so fun! Joe was awesome. He was knowledgeable about the area, he was personable and went over the top to provide us with a great experience. Dolphin Discoveries made the whole process seamless with a very simple, yet detailed email with instructions. We went at 9 am and saw a lot of dolphins! Highly recommend!
