Explore Oahu's legendary North Shore through its farms, flavors, and surf culture on this guided food tour that includes an exclusive visit to Dole Plantation, Hawaii's most famous pineapple attraction. Your guide picks you up from Waikiki and leads you through a full day of tastings, from freshly harvested pineapple and macadamia nuts to local shrimp plates and shave ice, all while sharing stories of Hawaiian agriculture and history along the way.
This food-focused tour is the best way to experience Dole Plantation and the North Shore's local food scene in a single day, with all transportation and a whole pineapple to take home included.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, a hat, and spending money for lunch, snacks, and souvenirs. Lunch is not included in the tour price. The tour departs in the morning with hotel pickup around 7:00 to 7:30 AM and returns to Waikiki in the mid to late afternoon.
This is a typical itinerary for this food tour. The order of stops may vary by day, and times are approximate.
Your guide meets you at your Waikiki hotel in a spacious, air-conditioned van. Pickup is complimentary and typically begins between 7:00 and 7:30 AM. On the drive north, your guide shares background on the day's stops and the role of agriculture in Hawaiian history.
The first stop is Green World Coffee Farm, a 7-acre working farm on the North Shore where more than 3,000 Arabica trees produce Hawaiian-grown coffee. You can sample a selection of freshly brewed coffees and teas, and those who arrive hungry can purchase pastries, smoothies, or light breakfast bites to start the morning.
The centerpiece of the tour is Dole Plantation, one of Oahu's most visited attractions and the original site of James Drummond Dole's pineapple operation. Unlike a standard visit, this tour includes a guided walk through the Dole pineapple farm and processing plant, where you see the full journey of a pineapple from the field to packaging. Your guide explains the history of pineapple cultivation in Hawaii and how Dole built the industry that shaped the island's economy for decades. You will sample freshly picked pineapple in the fields. Before leaving Dole Plantation, each adult guest receives a complimentary whole Royal Hawaiian Gold pineapple to take home. You also have time to explore the Dole Plantation country store, try the famous Dole Whip soft serve, and browse the souvenir shop. The grounds are free to enter, and optional paid activities include the Pineapple Express Train Tour (a narrated 20-minute ride), the Pineapple Garden Maze (recognized by the 2008 Guinness World Records as the world's largest maze), and the Plantation Garden Tour.
A short drive from Dole Plantation brings you to a North Shore macadamia nut farm, the only farm still growing macadamia nuts on Oahu. Here you can taste up to six unique macadamia nut flavors and, depending on the season, crack your own nuts fresh from the tree. Your guide shares the story of how macadamia nuts became one of Hawaii's signature crops.
The tour stops at one of the North Shore's famous food truck clusters for lunch. Options typically include garlic shrimp, kalua pork, poke bowls, Korean BBQ, and vegetarian plates. Lunch is at your own expense, and your guide will recommend favorites.
After lunch, you explore Haleiwa, a historic surf town originally built as housing for immigrant sugar plantation workers in the 1800s. Today the town is lined with boutique surf shops, art galleries, locally made souvenir stores, and cafes. Optional stops include Matsumoto Shave Ice, one of the most famous shave ice shops on the island, and Route 99 for locally crafted art and gifts. Your guide provides tips on where to find the best treats and most interesting shops.
After a full day on the North Shore, the van returns you to your Waikiki hotel, typically arriving in the mid to late afternoon.
Pass-by highlights include: Dole pineapple fields along Kamehameha Highway, North Shore surf spots (Pipeline, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay), and scenic coastal views of Oahu's North Shore

Dole Plantation sits in the heart of Oahu's central plateau, where endless rows of spiky pineapple tops stretch across red volcanic soil toward the Waianae Mountains. Originally a roadside fruit stand in 1950, the site has grown into one of Hawaii's most visited attractions, drawing more than a million guests each year with its Guinness World Record maze, vintage train ride, and the iconic Dole Whip. But on this food tour, you get something most visitors never see: a guided walk through the working pineapple farm and processing plant, with pineapple samples picked fresh from the field.
The Dole Plantation stop is the anchor of a full day devoted to the flavors and stories of the North Shore. Before arriving at the plantation, the tour warms up with coffee tastings at a small family farm in the hills above Haleiwa, where Arabica beans grow under the Hawaiian sun. After Dole Plantation, you continue to a macadamia nut farm to crack and taste the nuts that have become synonymous with Hawaiian snacking, then sit down for garlic shrimp or poke at the food trucks that have made the North Shore a culinary destination. The day wraps in Haleiwa, a former sugar plantation town reinvented as a surf village where shave ice, boutique shops, and local art galleries line the main street.
This food tour is well suited for travelers who want to taste their way across the North Shore rather than just drive through it. Families with children, couples looking for a fun day out, and anyone who has visited Dole Plantation on their own and wants to go deeper into the farm side of the operation will find this tour rewarding. With a knowledgeable guide, comfortable transportation, and a whole pineapple to take home, it turns a day on the North Shore into a food experience you will remember long after you leave Oahu.
