Discover what we've curated for you
2.5 hrs
Guide, kayak, life vests
Experience a slow-paced guided paddle through the Atchafalaya Basin. Glide among towering second-growth cypress while learning about Cajun culture and native wildlife.
Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent. Two-person minimum; tandem kayaks available on request. Able paddlers only and kayaks have weight restrictions.
Will we see alligators?
Since we do not feed wildlife, we cannot guarantee sightings. American alligators here are typically timid and avoid people.
What wildlife should we expect to see?
The Atchafalaya is home to many creatures. On a typical day we may see a variety of birds and alligators, and sometimes otters, beavers, snakes, fishing spiders, and raccoons.
How should we dress?
Dress for the weather. It can feel about 10 degrees cooler on the water on cool days. In summer, a hat and light clothing are recommended.
Is swimming allowed on the tour?
Yes, swimming is allowed if all parties consent to pausing to swim.
We allow a 24 hour window to cancel your tour with a full refund. However, if you do not cancel within that window, we will not be able to process a refund.

This family-run operation offers an authentic alternative to the typical airboat swamp tours, taking visitors deep into the Atchafalaya Basin for genuinely educational experiences. Guides Al and Dean consistently earn praise for their extensive ecological knowledge and passion for conservation. Reviewers appreciate that they let groups soak in the quiet beauty of the swamp rather than constantly narrating, and they're committed to protecting the environment (no feeding wildlife for photo ops). The wildlife sightings are impressive—alligators, cypress trees up to 2000 years old, countless bird species, turtles, and more—though what you'll see varies by season and water levels. Both boat and kayak tours get rave reviews, with many visitors doing both to get different perspectives on the ecosystem. The small group sizes create intimate, peaceful experiences, and tours run even with minimal bookings. Several guests also mention the cabin rental as a quiet, comfortable basecamp. Solo travelers and families alike felt welcomed and thoroughly engaged throughout their visits.
