Ride across an 86-acre working ranch just outside Bandera. Start in the arena to learn the basics, then explore rolling hills and pastures; on select days, help groom and saddle your horse.
Riders must be 8 or older. Closed-toe shoes are required; long pants and boots recommended. Arrive 15 minutes before your start time.
Rebooking is possible up to 1 week before. If the operator cancels due to weather, you will be fully reimbursed. For day rides: cancel more than 1 week in advance for a full refund; cancel 1 week to 24 hours prior for a 50% refund; less than 24 hours is non-refundable. For overnight trips: full refund if canceled 30 days prior; weather-related activity refunds are provided.

Harrieth and her team run a genuinely welcoming operation in the Texas Hill Country, and it shows in every detail. Guests consistently praise the well-cared-for horses (many are rescues), clean and charming cabins, and the warm hospitality that makes visitors feel like part of the ranch family. Tom and Tami get special mentions as excellent trail guides, leading riders through beautiful landscapes that include river crossings, scenic vistas, and glimpses of local wildlife like deer. Robin's cooking earns rave reviews, especially the chuckwagon breakfasts prepared over an open fire. The experience goes beyond just a trail ride. Visitors love the authentic ranch atmosphere, from brushing horses before rides to meeting the longhorns and other animals roaming the property. The sunset rides are particularly popular, and packages that include overnight stays with multiple rides and meals seem to create the most memorable experiences. One experienced rider wished for more opportunities to canter, but beginners consistently report feeling safe and comfortable. Whether you're coming from across Texas or flying in from Europe, this appears to be a genuine Hill Country adventure that delivers on the promise of true Texas hospitality.
My husband and I had a very enjoyable weekend in Bandera at BHR. Tom and Harriet are both great hosts. We did four rides for our weekend stay- a short ride in the property on Friday afternoon, a longer ride Saturday morning into town for breakfast and then onto the city park before heading back, a third ride in the state preserve in the evening, and another short ride on the property Sunday morning. My favorite was the Saturday evening ride, they have beautiful landscape at the preserve and hills to ride up and down. We watched the sunset from the top of one of the hills which was beautiful. We learned how to brush and saddle a horse and helped with feeding (our choice). They let you be as involved as you want with the care of the horses. Tom and Harriet are both friendly and informative about the area. We stayed in the coyote cabin and the accommodations are very pleasant. The king bed was comfortable, everything was clean and the kitchen was stocked with basics including coffee and creamer. Dinner was amazing! Robin, the chef, is also personable and will cater to dietary needs. The food was all fantastic. If you are looking for a quieter, outdoorsy get away, I would definitely suggest staying with Bandera Historical Rides.
