Chocolate lovers are in for something special here. This tree-to-bar operation offers remarkably educational tours that take visitors through the entire process of Hawaiian chocolate making, from fresh cacao pods to finished bars. Tour guides like Seneca and Cynthia earn consistent praise for their passion and expertise, making the 90-minute experience engaging for everyone from curious 10-year-olds to serious foodies. The hands-on, authentic approach helps visitors understand what makes locally-grown Hawaiian chocolate unique. The tastings are a definite highlight. Guests sample various single-origin chocolates and even try the sweet tropical pulp from fresh cacao pods. Many visitors appreciate learning about the ethical sourcing and fair trade aspects of Hawaiian cacao farming, plus interesting details like year-round harvests and pollination by native Hawaiian gnats. The tour wraps up with a chance to purchase bars in creative flavors like hibiscus and koko colada, though popular items and merchandise can sometimes sell out. This feels like a genuine farm-to-factory experience rather than a touristy show, perfect for anyone wanting to explore Oahu's agricultural side while indulging their sweet tooth.
UNFORGETTABLE experience at Lonohana Estate Chocolate Factory! Cynthia and Rollie delivered a masterfully crafted, hands-on tour that deepened my love of chocolate and my appreciation for the entire cacao industry. Their expertise shone through as they led us through every fascinating step of the process; the beautiful tour felt both personal and profound, making my birthday unbelievably special—they made me feel both like family and a VIP! So grateful for Lonohana’s commitment to ethical sourcing and its investment in Hawai‘i’s economy and agricultural heritage. Favorite Lonohana items (so far!): Banana Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts, Cacao Nibs, Koko Colada, and all coconut and coffee chocolates. This company and its outstanding team deliver true excellence at every level. Hands down best tour I’ve ever experienced, and I can’t wait to return. Run to the Lonohana website, and book your tour today! (And if you don’t have time for a full tour, the chocolate tastings at their shop in SALT Kaka’ako are phenomenal as well!)
