Lost Plate's food tours deliver exactly what Portland visitors hope for: authentic local experiences led by genuinely passionate guides. Herb and Michelle stand out repeatedly for their deep knowledge of Portland's food scene and history, making even locals discover new favorites. The food cart tours seem particularly popular, taking groups through Portland's famous pod culture with generous portions and diverse tastings that push people beyond their usual choices. The coffee and donut tour offers a more relaxed morning vibe, while the urban wine tasting provides an intimate look at local tasting rooms with food pairings. What makes these tours special is how personalized they feel despite being group experiences. Guides engage everyone individually, share stories about the food makers behind each stop, and weave in Portland history during walks between locations. Dietary accommodations like vegetarian options get handled smoothly. The small group sizes keep things intimate, and the tours work equally well for visitors wanting an introduction to the city and locals looking to explore their own backyard from a fresh perspective. Tours typically visit 3-5 stops within easy walking distance of each other.
I had such a great time joining Michelle’s Lost Food Plate tour! Even as a Portland local, I had so much fun and got to explore a few spots I’d never been to before. The coffee and donuts were GREAT, and it was really interesting to see downtown’s coffee culture up close. I thought I knew all these places, but clearly I didn’t! I’d absolutely recommend this tour to friends and family, whether they’re visiting from out of town or locals wanting to experience Portland in a new way. It would also make a fun activity for a group trip!
