Horror movie fans consistently rave about this off-Strip collection, calling it a hidden gem filled with authentic movie props, replicas, and special effects pieces. The collection includes recognizable artifacts from classic horror films, and visitors appreciate the mix of genuine screen-used items alongside carefully crafted costumes and memorabilia. Even small touches like bathroom decor inspired by The Shining earn mentions. The young staff at the front desk get positive shoutouts for their friendliness. The location requires a drive from central Las Vegas, making it ideal for visitors with rental cars or those looking for something different from the usual tourist spots. A few guests mention the space is relatively small and note that lighting can be dim in spots, which occasionally makes reading exhibit information challenging. Still, most horror enthusiasts find it worth the trip, comparing it to classic roadside attractions with a personal touch. You can visit just this museum or combine it with the adjacent alien museum for a discounted rate, though opinions on that add-on are more mixed.
I made a trip up to Boulder City, NV from Needles, CA on Friday the 13th specifically to visit this place. It did not disappoint. Seemed like most people were done in about 10 minutes but I think I spent an hour and a half in here! All of the displays are awesome. And *almost* every one of them has a little plaque thing with interesting tid bits about the character that are worth reading. I have a billion photos but my camera had a smudge I couldnt wipe clean and the result is if you look at them you'll assume I'm a huge fan of J.J. Abrams. Pro tip: Pay a little extra and go to their Outpost 51 Alien Museum. Real talk, it is a lot more sparse than the monster museum.. and has a lot of video elements to the displays which can be a little distracting but it is pretty rad. Anyway, I wanna thank Tom and his team for a fantastic time. As a bonus, I got to enjoy the town of Boulder City for several hours afterwards as well. It is a really nice little city. I will never go to Vegas again. Boulder City is much better.
